Longspined Urchin

Diadema spp

May be black, violet, blue-black or grey. Spines may be solid colors or banded. Use care when candling, the spines are not venomous but are capable of inflicting painful puncture woonds.

Diadema eat all kinds of algae, including coralline algae, but are also excellent grazers on filamentous algae. Will take meaty foods.
