Red Legged Crabs Paguristes digueti
This dull red or scarlet hermit is often sold as a a beneficial scavenger but in large numbers it can do a lot of damage in a reef aquarium. It prefers animal flesh and will eat small snails, small polyps or other minute animals. Will attack, kill and eat snails and wear their shells. Will attack and remove food from sessile invertebrates such as sea anemones and soft corals. Needs a good supply of empty snail shells in the tank to accommodate growth.
Will scavenge most aquarium foods. Also preys on many smaller animals.
