Nassarius Snails Nassarius Snails
These small, whelklike snails may live decades in captivity, performing useful scavenging chores, if not overstocked and allowed to starve. Speciallized to eat carrion, they will rapidly consume leftover food. If well fed, they lay small, circular egg masses on the aquarium walls, which develop for several days and then hatch, releasing planktonic larvae. Often preyed upon by hermit crabs.
Obligate scavengers on meaty foods. Will not eat detritus or attack healthy animals.
