Fiji Yellow Toadstool Leather Sarcophyton spp.
These hardy, leatherlike corals, resembling either mushrooms or flared vases, can develop into magnificent aquarium specimens. Effective competitors for space, they secrete numerous chemicals that inhibit many other animals. Colonies go through cycles of polyp extension and retraction and at times the top of the colony can be quite smooth. Cuttings are easily propogated.
Have zooxanthellae. Do not appear to feed in the aquarium but do better in tanks that get relatively heavy regular feedings.
