Plate Coral - Premium Fungia spp.
Normally found on sand or coral rubble, they should be placed on similar substrates of a reef aquarium. Not suitable for a bare-bottomed tank. Fungia are able to climb significant slops as well as turn themselves over. Mobile Fungia are fascinating but they do have a drawback: both their nematocysts and copious mucous secretions pack quite a punch. As they move, they may bump into other corals or animals in the tank and cause significant damage. Care must be taken with their placement. Colors range from tan to pink to green. Tentacles generally retract during the day. Requires bright lighting.
Has zooxanthellae but requires significant feeding for health and growth. Will eat small pieces of fish, shrimp or squid placed on the oral disc.
