Pearl Bubble - common

Pearl Bubble - common

Physogyra lichtensteini

Similar to bubble coral, this coral is characterized by the presence of small tissue bubbles that arise from the polyps. These house zooxanthellae and by inflation, expose their internal zooxanthellae to much more light. THis coral prefers weak currents and does not tolerate disturbance by hermit crabs. If the tank contains large numbers of them, this coral may not be a good choice. Colonies, green to greenish white, tend to form massive heads in the wild. The tissue bubbles inflate during the day and deflate at night when the tentacles are extended. The tentacles may cause damage to other corals. Prefers low light intensity.

Has zooxanthellae but must be fed. Will eat lots of food if it is offered.

Size: colonies to about 12 inches
Area of Collection: Indo-Pacific
