Flame Cardinal Apogon maculatus
This Caribbean species is a great fish for hobbyists at all levels, although it will often spend a considerable amount of time peering from holes and crevices. It will stake out a small territory in its captive home and chase away any other cardinalfishes that intrude. Keep only one per tank, unless the aquarium is of sufficient size. To keep more than one, add two individuals simultaneously to a larger tank. May eat delicate ornamental shrimps.
Feed meaty foods, including marine fishes, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp and frozen preparations.
