Pistol Shrimp Alpheus spp.
Generally sumbiotic, these small shrimps can pair with burrowing gobies, where they share the fishes burrow. Many Alphaeus species appear to be primarily nocturnal and do best in a dimly lit aquarium. These shrimps have a pair of dissimilarily sized claws which they use to produce a loud cracking or snapping noise.
Feed diced fish, krill and some prepared foods.
