"Kalkwasser" is the German term for limewater, a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide in water that is used to replenish calcium and maintain alkalinity.  It also helps to maintain pH and precipitates phosphates that may fuel algal growth.  Kalkwasser reactors provide a more automated and long term way of adding kalkwasser to your tank.
