Temperature maintenance is the most critical parameter for reef aquariums.  A thriving reef should be kept between 72-80F for the best results and kept as stable as possible.  Wide fluctuations can be harmful and higher temperatures can trigger spawning events which can be a major problem for aquariums.  The use of a heater and temperature controller can help provide a stable environment and control temperature swings.
